What It’s Like To Be A Recovering Addict

I was addicted, I needed my fix instantly and all the time. You were a drug. A drug I couldn’t live without. Just like all addicts, I would get my fix, but it was never enough. I always wanted more, and I got greedy. I was so greedy for you and for my fix that it led me down a dark road. I invested so much time obsessing over the thought of you because like any addiction, the second they take it away from you, you want more.   My addiction time consuming and I needed rehab. Not the kind that treats you for a legitimate drug problem, but emotional rehab. I needed a new hobby, something to distract my thoughts and made up situations. Similar to any addict there are steps for recovering.   1. Denial. I was in denial that you were gone, that you were moving on.

When your Bestfriend is an Introvert (as an Extrovert)

Firstly, I’d like to make a disclaimer: I am in no way insinuating that this is true for everyone. I am just basing this off of my own experiences and from asking some of my peers and friends. So if some – or all – of this doesn’t apply to you, I’m not questioning your friendships. (Also, the person mentioned in this article has given me permission to use his name and photograph.)   My best friend at college is named Sam – and he is very much an introvert. That’s not to say that he doesn’t have a social life; in fact, every Tuesday after the class we have together, we have laundry and homework time. But come to think of it, I guess that’s not the best example of being “social.”   Anyway. There are definitely both upsides and downsides to having an introverted best friend as an

Why Does The One Who Cares Less Win?

The other day I heard some people talking about how the person who cares less always wins. Whether it’s during a romantic relationship, or friendship how come the person who shows little to no emotion is considered the winner? It’s like every relationship we’ve ever had with someone turns into a competition. We’re in a constant battle of who texts first, who’s the first to snapchat, who ends the conversation first or who gets over it entirely.   When did taking 30 minutes to respond to a text because the person your texting took 20 minutes become a thing? Why do we say things we don’t mean? Why do we play games and act like nothing matters? What’s the point?   They say the person who cares less has all the power; I disagree. Sure they don’t show it on the surface but I’ve seen, “the people who care less”

10 College Relationships That Define Every College Student Perfectly

College relationships can be really confusing. After being in a committed relationship for a long time I really never knew all the gray areas in relationships. Becoming single in college was definitely a rude awakening for me. I’ve learned that there are several different types of college relationships that exist. Tie in texting/social media/binge drinking and that only complicates things more. So with that said, I’d like to take some time to reflect on the different relationships that exist in college and what they actually mean. 1) Hooking Up “We’re hooking up” is a phrase that can be complicated. Some identify hooking up as fucking while others just take it as any type of sexual relations. Typically, I see it as the latter. Although hooking up can include sex, I don’t think it necessarily has to. After my dad asked me if I was going to “hook up” with a

Unwritten Mandatory Rules of Having a Friend Crush

Written By: Laura So, what is a friend crush, you may be thinking?  Glad you asked!  A Friend Crush is the desire to be super-close besties with another person.  Most of this is the same as a Regular Crush–whenever you see your Friend Crush, you long about your possible life together as best friends.  You’re convinced that this person is your spirit animal.  You may even think about them when they’re not around, or get anxiety when they are around, because you fear saying the wrong thing and messing up the friendship.  You probably laugh a little too hard at their jokes, and you probably try a little too hard to really put your “best self” forward.  The bottom line is, while you enjoy the company of this person right now, you want to take your relationship to the next level–from Acquaintance to Friend, or from Friend to Best Friend.
