Like life, friendship doesn’t come with a rulebook. There’s no manual in the world on how to carry out the most beneficial and long-lasting friendships. It takes two people who just get each other in every way to make it work, and there’s just some things that can’t be taught. Here are some of those unspoken rules that we all must follow: Always tell the truth, even if it’s going to hurt: It’s better to be hurt with the truth than pleased with a lie. Not many people are truthful in this world, but your best friend should definitely be one of them. The truth might hurt, but someone needs to say it. If she looks bad in a picture, don’t Instagram it no matter how good you look: This could be hard if your Instagram has been deprived of uploads lately and you FINALLY got a picture you look good
How It Feels to Have Never Been in a Serious Relationship
I’m twenty and I’ve never been in a relationship that’s lasted longer than a month or two. But so what, right? I’m only twenty. I still have my entire life ahead of me! I have goals and aspirations and things to learn about myself before I can properly settle down with someone. But it doesn’t always feel that way. Sometimes it just sucks, especially when it seems like everyone around me is in a relationship. There’s been times when I’ve wallowed in self-pity because I somehow convinced myself I’d be #foreveralone (I even have the tweets to prove it). And there’s been times when I thought it was the end of the world, like when I almost didn’t have a prom date and for some godforsaken reason I had to have a date or I wouldn’t go. Instead of thinking that I have my whole life ahead of me, I start wondering why I’ve never been in a serious relationship. I start to analyze every relationship
Please Stop Assuming You Can Read My Body Language
I’ve had my fair share of times when people think that they know exactly what I’m thinking or feeling based on my body language. My arms are crossed? Well that must mean one of two things: I’m cold or I’m angry. Wrong. I’m slouching in my chair in class? That means I don’t really care about what’s being taught or I’m not paying full attention. Wrong. I’m not smiling or laughing at something my friend just said? Obviously I don’t like what she said. Wrong. The truth? Sometimes I just feel like my arms are awkwardly hanging by my sides so I’ll cross them because it’s comfortable. I have a tendency to slouch in class because the desks are uncomfortable and if I’m going to have to sit in one for an hour and a half I’m going to make myself as comfortable as possible. I don’t find it necessary to smile or laugh at
20 Alternate Ways to Show Someone You Appreciate Them
It’s easy to get caught up in life and forget to tell the loved ones in our life just how much we appreciate them. We make up excuses and tell ourselves that we’ll do it later, but you never know if “later” is going to be too late. But sometimes it’s also just hard for us to convey how much someone means to us. It’s not always easy for people to say “I love you” or “I appreciate you”, so here are 20 other ways to do just that. 20. Spend time with them. This is probably the most obvious out of them all, but as college students with busy schedules it can be hard to coordinate time to spend together. Even if it’s just grabbing a quick coffee between classes or tagging along to buy groceries, just make sure you spend time with them. 19. Tag/send an article that reminds you of
A Letter to the Grandfathers I Never Knew
Both of my grandfathers, and step-grandfather, left this earth before I was able to meet them. With the recent passing of my Grandma, on my Dad’s side, I’ve found myself often thinking about the things I wish I could’ve learned from each of them and the memories I wish that I could reflect on. This article is dedicated to them and anyone else who’s lost their grandparent(s) too soon. If I had the opportunity to travel back in time to meet you, I would take it in a heartbeat. I can only imagine what it’d be like to sit across from you and listen to the drawl of your voice as you recount your life’s tales. I’d sit on the couch with my legs curled under me, cradling the cup of tea you made just for me, as the smell of cookies lingers in the air from the batch that Grandma and I made the
