Oh finals week. We all dread it. We all cry about it. We all have nightmares about it. No matter what your major is, we all still have very similar thoughts and feelings during finals week. So, let’s take a moment back from drowning in the books and feel sorry for ourselves. I got this in the bag. Right? You kind of feel a rush of confidence for like a total of three seconds. And then you just laugh to yourself And then cry to yourself (or in public…you do you). Then you think about everything you have to do in such a short period of time So, a little more procrastinating wouldn’t hurt nobody, right? *Takes a nap*
Keeping My Guard Up: Why I Am Afraid To Fall In Love
I am not sure that I have ever been in love. I think I have, but I am not completely sure. I think this is mainly because every time I have tried to shed away the heavy guard of fear, I have ended up hurt. So, just like that, I try to push the opportunity of love away before it can even happen. My body is no longer permeable; it refuses to let any passion, fondness, and sentiment in. It shields away any affection before I could become involved with somebody I actually like. This is because my heart has been broken way too much and in so many ways, and not only by relationships with the guys I have dated; It has been broken by friends I imagined to be in my life forever. I have experienced such extreme emotions in the past, and frankly used them all up, making me
A Letter To The Guys On Tinder Sitting In My Matches
Hey dudes who are just lounging under my Tinder matches! We are the definition of dormant. We were both so alive at one time. Seriously, we both took the effortless effort to swipe right for each other. And now, we live abiotic under a list of names and pictures. Like we were ever going to actually spark a conversation though, right? I see your name and picture on a daily basis just settled down comfortably and silently in my matches. I mean there are a lot of you, and a lot of you guys are pretty hot, too. So why can’t one of us just grow some balls and send a darn message? Like, I don’t even know you. But, we matched on fricken Tinder, so who knows? For all we know, we can be soulmates. But, at the same time, what do I even say to you? “Howdy?” “What’s cooking, good looking?” “Heyyyyyyyy!” Or,
Dear Family, Don’t Ask Me These Questions This Holiday Season
Seriously, shush. For a college student, the holiday season literally translates to “try to stay sane while your family bombards you with question after question after question.” Like seriously, I love you guys, but chill. I haven’t had a home cooked meal in a while. I would like to enjoy it for just like five minutes without a press conference starring me and everything I don’t know about my future. Here’s a list of those most dreaded questions. 13. “How is college treating you?” Swell. 12. “Are you doing alright?” Sure. 11. “Are you sleeping enough?” No. 10. “Are you eating enough?” No. 9. “Are you ________ enough?” Still no. 8. “It looks like you have gained (or lost) weight…” WHY THANK YOU FOR NOTICING! 7. “So, do you have any internships planned this summer?” It’s December. Can we not fast forward like six months into the future when I
Mental Health Is Not Chopped Liver; It’s Important, Too.
My name is Danielle. I was diagnosed with Generalized Anxiety Disorder when I was in middle school. I have constant negative thoughts that make my mind jumble and feel scattered. Often, I have miserable panic attacks where I start to shake, feel numb, and I want to scream at the top of my lungs. However, my name is not Danielle Generalized Anxiety Disorder; my anxiety should NOT define the person that I am one bit. Recently, a guy approximately my age sent me a message: a complete stranger. He told me that he had scrolled through the titles of my articles, paying deeper attention to the ones that mention mental health. The stranger asked me if I consider my mental health problems “actual health issues.” According to this guy, mental health is not as important as physical health; mental health is not worth talking about. Without attempting to argue back, I
